Bob Gruen photo emulation:
The photographer I chose to emulate is Bob Gruen. He grew up in New York and lived there all his life. The very first picture he photographed was at the New Folk Fesitval back in 1965. For a time period in his life he lived with a folk rock band, so these were the photographs he took. Bob Gruen is a commercial photographer. The main subjects in his piece are the two guitarists and the singer. The photographer is trying to capture the energy that is inside the concert room. The reason I chose Bob Gruen is because I can relate to the photographs very well. Singing and performing is something I love to do and I enjoy rock music over all the other genres. This artist does a great job capturing the rock artist very passionate about what they are doing. When I did this photo emulation project, I chose to photograph my boyfriend and my friends performing in their band. Ironically they had a show last Friday at the Somerset Progressive Club, so it gave me the idea to take my point and shoot camera and take pictures. The spotlights will copy the original photo. Both of them have hints of orangy light. The lights are coming from above in Bob Gruen's photo while in my photo emulation the lights are coming from down below that creates an interesting shadow on the back wall. Also, the feeling/mood of the band will emulate the famous band by portraying the face of someone who loves doing what they love. The artists in Bob Gruen's photo look very into their performance just like the band I emulated.
